20th April 2008 SLWCN have been informed that Mitie who clean Holyrood (Scottish Parliament) are not licensed and have been given a dispensation. There is nothing in the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 which covers this and therefore Mitie are breaking the law and we would welcome any statement from the Scottish Government, why is it that window cleaners are required to be licensed but it is not applicable to Holyrood.
Another concern is Mitie operate throughout Scotland and it is known in a lot of areas they work in they are not licensed, so another another question that needs to be asked is why are companies that openly break the law are allowed to tender for Government and Council contracts.

20th April 2008 There have been reports that bogus window cleaners informing members of the public that they are now doing the round as the window cleaner has quit. If this ever happens to you always request to see their licence, if no licence is produced then please contact your local Crimestoppers. Also ring your window cleaner for confirmation.
Remember always request to see their licence when a window cleaner comes knocking on your door. It's that time of the year when people will leave their bedroom windows open, so be safe, always use a licensed window cleaner.
